A new study from American Farmland Trust (AFT) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln shows that the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP) improves agricultural viability, encourages on-farm conservation and helps farmers gain access to land. The FRPP is a USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service program that protects farm and ranch land from development by providing matching funds to eligible entities to purchase agricultural conservation easements.

This is another reason to urge Congress to renew the farm bill, which expired two years age and has failed to pass several tries in Washington. Tied up in the bill are important grants and funding for beginning farmers.
