The new proposed federal regulations for food safety are the first change of our nation’s food safety practices since 1938. The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) includes new regulations for produce farms and for facilities that process food for people to eat. It represents some big changes to our food system, and it is extremely important for the Food and Drug Administration to get these regulations right.

Some of the proposed regulations could make it nearly impossible for small family farms to comply, decreasing the availability of fresh local produce across the country.

The open comment period ends November 15th. Taking just a few moments if you are a farmer or consumer who values the local food system could help small farms stay in business.
