Tenant farmers in England have been pushing to change tax abatement policy for landowners.
In the US as well as England, there are a variety of programs that offer landowners tax breaks on land in current agricultural use. This sometimes allows tax breaks for less-than-active farms.
British farmers are pushing to amend such breaks to only give allowances to landowners who honor long-term leases. Long-term leases help renting farms with long-term viability and improve the chances of more environmentally sound practices.
