To create regenerative food systems that support just, vibrant, healthy communities, our system of farmland ownership has to change.

Agrarian Trust catalyzes support for next-generation farmers by working with communities to acquire and steward land for equitable access, cultural reconnection, regenerative agriculture, and ecological restoration.

Together, we’re rebuilding our food system from the ground up.

Transition Team

In 2023, Agrarian Trust transitioned our leadership and outlined a new course for our organization. We sought out Co-Directors to guide and refine our approach to equitable land access and a democratic staff culture.

After an extensive search, we welcomed two Co-Directors:

LaShauna Austria, founder, Seeds of Change Consulting

Jean Willoughby, founder, Health Equity Resources & Education

LaShauna and Jean worked together to help cultivate a new team structure and contribute to a transition plan at Agrarian Trust. This has supported us as we’ve moved toward becoming a worker self-directed nonprofit inspired by our wonderful colleagues at the Sustainable Economies Law Center and the Nonprofit Democracy Network.

We’re thrilled with the progress we’ve made and look forward to welcoming four new staff to join our team.

After serving together and accomplishing our biggest goals for 2023, LaShauna and Jean are excited to keep collaborating this year and beyond, doing what they do best: building relationships, sparking new ideas, and organizing joyfully.

LaShauna’s two amazing companies, Seeds of Change Consulting and Kindred Seedlings Farm, are delighted to have her back, and both continue to do transformative work within our food system and beyond.

We’re grateful for LaShauna’s leadership and guidance and for Jean to stay on to help write our next chapter as we build on our progress and grow our team. Stay tuned as we aim to publicly announce four new hires by October 2024 and meet our current team below.
