Workshop on Farm Leasing for Farmers and Landowners—June 26
Saratoga Springs, NY (June 23)—A workshop about farm leasing for farmers and owners of agricultural land, co-hosted by American Farmland Trust, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County and Saratoga PLAN, will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County office at 50 West High Street in Ballston Spa.
The workshop is part of a series offered by the Hudson Valley Farmlink Network, a partnership coordinated by American Farmland Trust that is dedicated to facilitating farm transfers and making farmland accessible to the next generation of farmers in the Hudson Valley.
The June 26 workshop includes a panel discussion on farm leasing. Panelists include local farmers, landowners and attorneys with leasing experience. The panel will address: basic elements of a good farm lease; legal considerations in farm leasing; on the ground experiences with farm leases; and negotiating a farm lease. A farmer-landowner networking session will follow the panel discussion to facilitate connections between farmers, landowners, attorneys, land trusts, agricultural service providers and others.
Welcoming remarks and informative presentations will be given by: Tim Biello, American Farmland Trust and Hudson Valley Farmlink Network; Charlie Hanehan, Saratoga County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board; Holly Rippon-Butler, National Young Farmers Coalition; and Maria Trabka, Saratoga PLAN.
