FIRA is a fund of $75 million for young people who are seeking to start up a new farm operation or undertake a transfer outside a family-run framework.
FIRA is designed to allow starting farmers easy access to farm ownership by having more cash flow during the start-up period, a major stage in an operation’s development.
The program offers two types of grants, an Establishment Grant designed to facilitate the full-time establishment of young farmers and to encourage them to acquire agricultural training by awarding them financial assistance. This grant offers different levels of rewards based on training.
The other Start-Up Grant is a smaller award for farmers not yet willing to take the leap into full-time farming.
