Kenai Homestead Families Face New Development Threats

The Kenai Peninsula in Alaska is home to many homesteaders who’s families moved to the area in the middle of the 20th century.  For decades, these families have lived close to the land with a finger on the pulse of the ecosystem they participate in.  But now, as the Alaskan population is expanding, the Soldotna City Council is threatening to annex lands surrounding the town, threatening homesteads in the area.  Many municipalities are following suit and the fate of some homesteads is still uncertain.  Agrarian Trust will continue to follow these situations and provide updates on the organizations working to preserve these homes and the land they sit on.  Read more about the possible development and the efforts to stop it here.
